It uses the Indonesian "pelog" scale, but has no actual Indonesian material. It is the accompaniment to a dance by Balinese dancer/choreographer Ni Luh Kompiang Metri Davies. Details about the dance and the music are at http://runforyourlife.org/html/spirit.html. The first performance was by the Santa Cruz Chamber Players, April 20, 1997. It also exists in a version for piano solo, also posted here.
