S S Wesley - Blessed be the God and Father [S/SATB & Orchestra]
An orchestration of S S Wesley’s ’Blessed be the God and Father’ for a concert (May 2008).
The style of orchestration is influenced by Wesley’s own orchestrations for his anthems (see ’Ascribe unto the Lord’ and ’The Wilderness’ as in Musica Britannica Vol.63, pub. Stainer & Bell) and also that of Mendelssohn, but care has been taken to ensure that the orchestral writing does not obscure the vocal parts.
The organ part may be played on either a standard 'manual&pedals' organ, or on a single manual continuo organ.
Orchestration: Oboe I & II, Clarinet I & II, Bassoon, Strings & continuo organ.
