Franz Schubert's Serenade (Stndchen "Leise Flehen Meine Lieder") is the fourth song from a "song-cycle" compiled after schubert's death by his brother. The Schwanengesang (swan song) cycle is thought to have been named by it's original publisher as Schubert's musical farewell. The collection of songs c.1828 was set to poems by Ludwig Rellstab and Heinrich Heine. This version has been arranged for flute and piano.

(The phrase "swan song" is a reference to the Mute Swan who is said to be mute until just before it dies, when it sings one beautiful song.)
