"The Heaven’s Are Telling" is the mightiest of choruses from the Oratorio "The Creation" and is a popular favourite. At the time that Haydn lived, following on the discoveries of Sir Isaac Newton, but preceding those of Charles Darwin, was the heyday of the view of an orderley universe. Haydn was a very cevout man and the text he used in "The Creation" is taken from Genisis, the Book of Psalms and John Milton’s "Paradise Lost", and also from a poem by Johann Peter Solomon entitled "The Creation of the World"
