Vic Carnall's first Simmarian Reveries and Dreamscapes (for solo piano) is most respectfully dedicated to Don Ray, the former Director of Music at St Mary's College (whence the title of the composition), Twickenham, south-west London, UK, where the composer was a student of French and Physical Education from 1969 to 1974. / Employing the technique of alphabetically-based notation, the main themes of the piece derive from the names of the dedicatee and the College. / The soloist should allow himself/herself a great deal of licence in his/her interpretation of the work.
