The title 'Dying thoughts' takes its name from a book by the puritan writer Richard Baxter (1615-1695) his meditation on the subject of death. However the piece is more of a tribute to Richard Wagner with reference to the Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde. Dying thoughts is the closing movement from book six of Psalmodia Sacra (2207).
