This lovely tune in lilting 7/8 time, little-known outside Greece, is believed to be well over a hundred years old and is still sung and danced to in its native country. The English words, by an unknown translator, are more flowery than the original Greek, which tells of a real person, "Mrs. Evangeline", so I have set it in a flowery, somewhat romantic style. Undoubtedly it would be danced in Greece at twice the speed, with bouzouki accompaniment! A simpler version with a smaller compass for Youth Choir is available, and a version for Men's Chorus is in preparation.
