The main problem for beginners will be that the semiquavers get the player all revved up just for a seemingly slow middle section…. perhaps that is why modern methods have left it out.
Carulli started as a cellist, then took up guitar to become a great performer and teacher and develop his own teaching method which he published in 1810.
The playing style should absolutely be tirando (free stroke) in the right hand. Experiment with contrasting tone and dynamics too. Suggested right hand fingerings are given in the score and guitar notation part. Not much use was made of the ring finger in this style - note the thumb use on all tail down notes too!
