Living in the middle of a desert makes you think. Things that were taken for granted now become more important and can take a lot more effort to achieve. On the plus side other things which were unimaginable beforehand are now almost everyday occurences.
The poem this piece for choir, percussion, piano and strings uses was written by a colleague and deals with some of the ideas and emotions that outlined above. The music itself is fairly straight foward and should be given a lot of space (time) to 'breathe' (more of a contemplative piece) and would ideally benefit from being performed in a resonant space such as a large church. I would love to hear what people think!
