DSCH: A Concert Overture is a postmodern piece of parody which was written originally to mark the centenary of the birth of the great Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Shostakovich himself extensively used a musical motto, which he made up from the initial letters of his name (D-Es-C-h in German notation, or, in English notation D-E flat-C-B natural), in many of his own pieces. I took the motto and developed a short piece which, reverently, parodies Shostakovich's style, but explores some of the more interesting harmonic implications of that motto. Calm and quiet passages mix with louder and faster ones to create a mix of themes which culminate in the DSCH motto at the end.
