Sir John Frederick Bridge (1844-1924) was an English organist, composer, teacher, and writer. He became a church organist before the age of 20 and achieved his ambition of becoming a cathedral organist by 24, first at Manchester Cathedral and later at Westminster Abbey. He was known for modernizing and improving music-making at the Abbey and organizing music for several state occasions, including two coronations.

"Peace" is a secular part-song composed by Bridge, with lyrics by I.J. Innes Pocock. It was first published in 1880 and later in 1915 by Novello and Co. The lyrics describe a joyful scene where all creatures celebrate the proclamation of universal peace.
