A beautiful and expressive arrangement of the traditional Londonderry Air for Concert Band.
Originating in County Londonderry in Northern Ireland, this much-loved melody has become one of the best-known Irish airs throughout the world. It is especially familiar as the tune of Danny Boy and is often regarded as an unofficial anthem by Irish communities internationally. The melody is also played as Northern Ireland’s victory anthem at the Commonwealth Games.
The air was collected by Jane Ross of Limavady and submitted to the noted Irish music collector George Petrie. It was published anonymously in 1855 in The Ancient Music of Ireland, where Petrie acknowledged Ross’s important contribution to preserving the traditional melodies of County Londonderry.
This concert-band arrangement captures the warmth, dignity and emotional power of the original melody. It is ideal for concerts, commemorative occasions, remembrance services, Irish-themed programmes and ceremonial performances.
A timeless melody that gives every section of the band an opportunity to perform with warmth, sensitivity and expressive phrasing.
