This English setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis is for 4-part SATB choir with occasional doublings in the soprano and bass. The Magnificat was originally written during my teenage years – 1964 – and won a prize in a local competition, but received no performance.
I felt recently that it needed to be revised (substantially in parts) and completed with the Nunc Dimittis setting in 2018, so that it could be sung liturgically. It may also be sung in concert, if preferred.
The style of both sections still reflects some of the rather naive writing of my youth but, although quite challenging in parts, I hope it can be enjoyed.
