It was an international hit, being performed in Berlin in 1990 to comemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall. Richards draws inspiration from composers of the fifteenth century, particularly Leonel Power and Dunstable, composers of the Old Hall Manuscript, who made a consonant interval out of the third. In the Kyrie, the time signatures should be largely ignored, and the singer should sing the Kyrie as plainchant.
