This is one of several pieces written for the London Philharmonic Open Ear Orchestra which I founded in 2002. The orchestra consists of a mix of professional players and good students/amateurs from many different backgrounds. Its policy is to play only music written by its members. We have premiered over 40 pieces to date. Northern Lights was first performed in a programme called Dancing with Stars, which included songs, classical, avant garde and jazz pieces. This is a cross-over jazz-folk-classical piece typical of the repertoire.
