Melding Gregorian plainsong, Bach counterpoint, Gershwin lushness and Kenneth Leighton dissonance, Sacris Solemnis is a setting for รก capella SATB (with rehearsal piano part) of St. Thomas Aquinas' treatise on the Roman Catholic belief of transubstantiation. Catholics believe that the Eucharist given during Mass "Literally" turn into the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ and Sacris Solemnis is his explanation in Latin for this believed miracle. The piece is extremely difficult but nonetheless stunning when performed but requires dexterity in Latin pronunciation. Those who have performed it all say that the hard work is really worthwhile.
