The 4rd Piano Sonata is a modern-classical composition, i.e. neo-classical but certainly with a more modern harmony than in the former piano sonatas . It consists of three movements. The 1st movement is moderately in tempo and in sonata-form, based on two themes: the first one calm and flowing, and the second one capricious, the slow 2nd movement is a small set of variations on a choral-like theme, the 3rd and final movement is moderately fast and in rondo-form, with a flowing main theme.
