Mr Noel Grima
Semi-professional jazz & classical trumpeter and pianist. Also studied the electric guitar and played other instruments such as the marimba and the recorder. Full-time work as an accountant. Soloist with the National concert band, and made part of the former Johann Strauss Malta Big Band and University of Malta Orchestra. Main trumpet instrument is the Bb. Several solo appearances abroad.
Played in several gigs, concerts, plays & musicals with famous local artists such as Paul Abela, Joe Brown, Dion Buhagiar, Sigmund Mifsud, Manoel Pirotta, Joseph Sammut, Joseph Vella. Also enjoyed masterclasses locally and abroad with Per-Otto Johansson (Malmö & Cöpenhagen Symphony Orchestras - SWE/DEN 2005), Bob Lanese (James Last Orchestra - USA/GER 2004), Jorg Muller (Vienna Conservatory - AUT 2002), Mike Del Ferro (NED 2004), Dieter von Sachs (GER 2004). Experience with all sorts of ensembles including brass trios, quartets, choirs & ensembles; trumpet quartets; jazz trios & combos; big bands; 80's and 00's rockbands with winds; baroque & classical chamber orchestras; symphonic, philharmonic, brass, marching, wind & 'hybrid' bands; et al.
Favorite genres are jazz, soundtracks, post-romanticism and TV ad motifs. Favorite composers are 20th-century master orchestrators ranging Mahler, Stravinsky, R.Strauss, Šostakovič, J.Williams; and creative geniuses such as Elfman and Tiersen.
