The Bells of Paradise -Guitar Solo with TAB
This tune, also known as Down In Yon Forest, was collected by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1908 from Castleton. It is a beautiful traditional carol in the old sense - which could be sung at any time of year - with a call and response pattern to the lyrics.
I first heard it in fact on one of those dramatised Tudor history series so popular in the 1970s/1980s when a convicted traitor was singing it in his cell in the Tower prior to being gruesomely hung drawn and quartered. The tune stuck in my head although the history didn’t!
This version is for simple guitar solo. I have used a drop D tuning for greater resonance. For classical guitar purists, there is a guitar part without TAB or fingering, for poor readers there is also a separate TAB part. So you have a choice of 1, 2 or 3….
