The title does not mean what you might think, "round" referring to boxing, not repetitions of the same tune. The idea was to put together some rhythmically irregular lines, macho instrumentation and combatively non-consonant harmony, as a change from my more usual mellifluence. (The trombone represents the referee, obviously). In the words of R. Vaughan Williams "I'm not sure if I like it but it's what I meant".
