What could I say about this one? Even more difficult than composing a piece is to write about it. Should we analyse its formal structure, harmony, counterpoint or something else, or chat about the circumstances under which it was created? A lugubrious winter evening, for example that might have triggered the spark of inspiration, perhaps? Part of the themes came to me in a dream; that’s why the subtitle reads in German: “Something dreamt on 25 January 2013.” And part I got by playfully fooling around on the viola without any definite aim or purpose.
