I went ahead and added verse 4 to this one, since our family's been asked to sing at our home parish, St. Joseph's in Hanover, PA for the first time, and at St. Joe's they sing all of the verses of the psalm. We just had our piano tuned yesterday, and I think there's a Lenten message in it. I asked the technician how often a piano should be tuned; he said once a year. Just like a piano gets out of tune, our souls get out of whack too. The piano tuner takes a couple of hours, the Lord gives us 40 days, once a year, to increase our prayer, to be more aware and attentive to the poor and needy, and to fast, give up things that we usually find so gratifying, but in the long run may not be bringing us closer to Jesus.

This psalm so beautifully reflects the message of Lent: that the Lord is merciful (especially through the sacrament of reconciliation), and that on the other side of his forgiveness, He's ready to redeem even the worst of sins or situations.

God bless,

Bernie
