Rest, by Paul Burnell.  Composed 2007 for narrator and instruments in 3 parts.

Duration 5:30 approx.

Suggested instrumentation:

Part 1 - violins, flutes, clarinets, melodica, accordion Parts 2 and 3 - strings (violins, violas, 'cellos), electronic keyboard with string sound, accordion

Part 1 - optional: add long stereo delay to create an overlapping effect between the two-note chords. Part 3 - the lower cue-sized notes in parentheses are optional.

This score edition created 2023.

Programme note:

‘Rest’ was inspired by country walks in Devon and Cornwall in August 2007.  The piece was first performed by the London CoMA Ensemble, conducted by Gregory Rose, on 20 July 2008 at the Harvey Theatre, High Melton Campus, Doncaster University.
