I started it in 2002 as a potential, but ultimately unsuitable, slow movement of my Sonata for Strings, and was extended to see what I could do with the excellent tutti and solo sonorities that GPO provides. I had not at the time flirted with any of the spikier 20th c. effects, so attempted to emulate the mainstream of the up-beat romantic string repertoire.
