This is an updated arrangement from that which was originally posted in 2010. I edited Mendelssohn's original piece to be shorter and more accessible to my small, limited-skills choir. The key also has been lowered from the original Eb to D (use Score Exchange key option if the original key is preferred). This shorter version more easily fits into an Epiphany Offertory or Anthem time slot. The original is, of course, both perfect and preferable, but if you need a shorter, easier to learn version, here it is. Enjoy! HISTORY: "Christus" is the title given by the composer's brother Paul to fragments of an unfinished oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn, published posthumously as Op. 97. The work was suggested by Christian Karl Josias von Bunsen, who compiled the German libretto from biblical sources. Composition began in 1846 and continued through Mendelssohn's last year. The completed portions include this well-known chorus (originally SATB), "There Shall a Star from Jacob Shine Forth," in which Mendelssohn quoted Philipp Nicolai's chorale "Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern." The first performance took place in 1852.
