A lively setting for choir and piano of three of the most popular tales from the first volume of poems written and published by Hilaire Belloc in 1907:

1. Rebecca (who slammed doors for fun and perished miserably); 2. Henry King (who chewed bits of string and was early cut off in dreadful agonies); 3. Jim (who ran away from Nurse and was eaten by a lion);

The text is rich with humorous twists and turns, moments of melodrama, pathos and comic asides. With the help of a colourful piano accompaniment, these musical settings breath new life into the classic poems with a direct storytelling style and plenty of humour.

Three Cautionary Tales for Choirs can be performed as a whole or as separate songs, with a total running time of about 8:30.
