This music is a companion piece to The Camphor Fountain, found in my folder Songs of Seven Valleys. It was performed with The Camphor Fountain in June 1999 at the Francis Winspear Centre for the Performing Arts in Edmonton, Alberta by a community choir, EKOSingers. Vocalise was performed first. It presents musical motifs that are found subsequently in the Camphor Fountain, but without real words and at a faster tempo. The idea with Vocalise is to tune the audience to the musical ideas and then follow that in the Camphor Fountain with lyrics abridged from the Valley of Love.
