Australian composer John Ross is a graduate of Durham University, and a Fellow of Trinity College, London. In 1996 he retired as Senior Lecturer, Charles Sturt University and Director, Murray Conservatorium. From 1991 to 2000 and then from 2009 to 2012 he was Director of Music at St. Matthew's Church, Albury, New South Wales. He is an examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board.
The West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir of Canada (conducted by Tony Funk) has recorded his "Wild Mountain Thyme" on their "The Time of Eternity" CD. The first of his "3 Sax Scorchers" is published in the Saxtet Publications album "Sax Scorchers: 20 Hot Studies for Saxophone". It is included in the examination syllabus of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music - Saxophone Grade 6 (from 2006) and also of Trinity/Guildhall - Saxophone Grade 6 (2007-2014). In 2005 his hymn-tune "Boston" was the winning entry in a hymn search conducted by the Boston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists to celebrate the Chapter's centenary.
