Downloading and printing music

Why do I need a printer?

When you purchase music from Score Exchange, you are not buying a physical sheet of music, you are buying the right to print the music on your own printer. We will not be sending the music to you in the post!

Alternatively you can download and keep the PDF file of the music that you have purchased for viewing on your mobile devices or for printing later.

When can I print the music that I have purchased?

Once you have completed the checkout process, the music you have purchased will be shown on the My purchases section of the My account pages. You can print your music at any time after completing your purchase.

How good is the print quality when printing on line?

It's important to realise that both of the preview systems available on Score Exchange (seView and Scorch) use a lower quality preview image. The final printed version (or downloaded PDF file) will be much higher quality that you can view on screen.

For most of the music on Score Exchange, the publisher has uploaded a Sibelius file. This means that the final file that you are purchasing will be a high quality PDF file that is exactly the same, top publication quality as from Sibelius itself. The only constraint is the resolution of your printer, but most domestic printers are more than satisfactory for music printing.

Some music has been uploaded to Score Exchange as a PDF file. With these files we can not control the final quality of the file, but we encourage our publishers to only provide top-quality files that are suitable for printing. If you experience any problems with the files you download from Score Exchange, please get in touch.

No paper came out of my printer?

Check your printer is switched on, contains paper and is plugged into your computer. If it is, it is probably not set up correctly. Please consult your computer's or printer's manual.

The downloaded PDF file is not in the transposition that I expected?

You can transpose most music on Score Exchange before and after you have purchased it. You can also download the same music in as many transpositions as you require. If you need to re-download some music that you have purchased recently, in a different transposition follow these steps:

If you're using seView to print your music:

  1. Start off by visiting your My Purchases to make sure you are signed in to your account
  2. Click the title of the music you wish to print.
  3. Using the seView preview make sure the music is displayed in the transposition you need - use the blue transpose button if required.
  4. Once the preview is correct, press the blue 'print' button to download your purchase. The downloaded PDF file should be in the same transposition as you are previewing on-screen.

If you're using the Scorch plug-in from Avid to print your music

  • Start off by visiting your My Purchases to make sure you are signed in to your account
  • Click the title of the music you wish to print.
  • Using the Scorch preview make sure the music is displayed in the transposition you need - use the transpose button in on the Scorch toolbar if required.
  • Once the preview is correct, press the 'print' button on the Scorch toolbar to open the print window and start the print process. The print out should be in the same transposition as you are previewing on-screen.
