Alto Saxophone part from A Galactic Exploration! (4 Pieces for Junior Wind Band)

Duration
6 minutes
Genre
Modern classical music

Written for Junior/Beginner Wind Band with some easy 2nd parts written for players who are only able to play the first few notes on the instrument. The 1st parts are pitched at around UK Grade 1 standard. Although some of the rhythms are tricky for beginners, they are short phrases and can be taught fairly quickly by putting some words to them.

I composed these original pieces for my own school bands mainly due to the fact that genuine band music for beginners is very hard to find. Also, due to the clash in keys between flutes and clarinets/brass, there are usually awkward passages with flutes needing to play E flats and A flats or other instruments needing to play sharps. In these pieces, I have tried to make easy finger changes where possible. I hope you will find these pieces fun and rewarding to perform!

The first piece ’Warp Factor 10’ has a rock beat with some empty bars for percussionists to improvise fills (though these could be as easy as just adding 3 crotchet beats if necessary). ’Alien Landscape’ is a modern sounding piece. Apologies here if the glock part sounds odd - its due to the limitations of changing a GM sound in the middle of a part. ’Battle’ is fairly straightforward, but the percussionists will enjoy playing the loud soli sections. Finally ’Victory Celebration’ contains a few simple syncopations to create an up tempo feel.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.

Static preview

The static preview shows a basic image of the first page.

Interactive preview

The interactive preview also shows a preview of the first page, but it's a bit slower to load. The preview is displayed using the Sibelius Cloud Publishing technology from Avid. With most scores, this technology will provide a higher quality preview, as well as being able to switch to full screen mode and also play the displayed music to you.

Printing after purchase

After you have purchased this item the Cloud Publishing technology is utilised to provide the printing mechanism for the music. As such, we recommend checking that the Interactive Preview displays correctly on your device before committing to a purchase.
