Bassoon from Autumn Song
The Seasons: October
Tchaikovsky composed the set of twelve short piano pieces "The Seasons", to a commission from the St. Petersburg music magazine Nouvellist, between late 1875 and mid 1876. Each piece represents a month of the year (in the northern hemisphere).
The movement for October is classic elegaic Tchaikovsky, familiar from the ballets and symphony slow movements, but miniaturised.
