Bob was born in 1941 in Staunton VA, where he still lives. He started piano at age 8, flute at age 10, and organ at age 16. He holds a BS in music education from the University of Virginia and a MA in secondary education with a music emphasis from Madison College (now James Madison University.) He has been a high school and elementary school band director and church organist/choirmaster. He has directed the Stonewall Brigade Band since 1975 and has been a member since 1960. He and his wife Joy live in an 1832-vintage farm house in Augusta County. Both of his sons are jazz saxophone players. Bob has been composing and arranging since his college days 50 years ago. He is also active in the local Rotary Club that sponsors Jazz in the Park in Staunton.
