Founder and conductor of the ORQUESTA SINFONICA INDEPENDIENTE DE BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR based in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Felix Porras was born in Minatitlán, Veracruz, Mexico in 1955. Physician by profession and musician as a lifetime passion, he began to study piano since the age of five and has a vast experience in playing, teaching and conducting. During his years of University in addition of being the Robin prize as the top graduate of his class in medical school, Dr. Porras was a piano teacher and Yamaha triple keybord organ instructor in Veracruz, Mexico. He was also part of the music groups of the University of Veracruz, one of the most prestigious institutions as far as music culture in the whole of Mexico. During his postgraduate training stage Dr. Porras was the musical director and arranger of the Quirsch Co. LTD in Houston Texas. Later he was part of the staff of the Saint Lukes piano and clavier room of the University of Exeter in England. Back in his country Dr. Porras was the president of the municipal citizens committee for the promotion of music and chelist of the Youth Municipal Orchestra of Los Cabos, BCS, Mexico. Then he decided to launch his own project creating the Sudcalifornian Association to promote the music Culture and his main interest has been to teach young people to play classic instruments in the three major orchestral sections by creating scores that allow the mix of advanced, intermediate and beginners that share the stage and the marvelous experience of the symphonic performance.
