The title comes from the beginning of The Well of Ascension, second book in Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy: "I write these words in steel, for anything not set in metal cannot be trusted." It has two levels, which remain separate: chiming chords that recur after decreasing spans of time, and sections between them, which are quite varied, but unified by two main motives.
