This song is often treated as a folk song, though in fact it was originally written in 1905 by Thomas S Allen, an early Tin Pan Alley composer. It was made famous by Pete Seager, and more recently revived by Bruce Springsteen, who re-invented the melody slightly.
Don’t be tempted to take it too fast in performance - the tempo needs to be kept at a steady trot.
The recording is a rehearsal only, and is not perfect!
