This original piece was inspired by the great rags composed by Scott Joplin, many of which have been transcribed successfully for concert and brass bands. This style of music seems to work well with band instrumentation, and I have always found rags to be fun to play. There is lots of interplay between the sections in this arrangement and opportunity for dramatic dynamics and accents. Reikorangi Rag has been performed many times in concert and it has gone over very well with audiences, with requests for encores and even for piano lead sheets.

This piece was originally written for the Kapiti Brass in New Zealand. The band rehearses in the green hills above Waikanae at the Reikorangi Community Hall - hence the title, Reikorangi Rag, which seemed to roll nicely off the tongue.
