Then, over Christmas break I watched Ron Howards "The Grinch" and thought that the happy little opening tune sounded like something you'd here as the camera is panning over the streets of Whoville. I wanted to write a waltz with a displaced feeling of the downbeat, so I added the 'B' section. It sounds like it doesn't belong at first, but I think it fits well in the scope of the piece…sort of like the Grinch feeling displaced from the rest of society, only to find out he fits after all.
