Durante was an Italian composer, theorist and a music educator. He was a pupil of Allessandro Scarlatti and even the teacher of Pergolesi. He is one of the representatives of the Napolitan School. He composed churchmusic (masses, psalms and motets) and music for Harpsichord. Remarkable is the use of chromaticism in his work.
The "Misericordias Domini" is original a motet for double choir.
