Gershwin wrote this gem of a piece whilst on the Hollywood film set of "Shall we dance", in 1937. He had written all of the other music for the film in the previous few months but the studio needed an interlude piece to accompany Astaire and Rogers being filmed walking their dog/s around the deck of an ocean liner, a crucial scene in the film. Gershwin sat down at the piano and improvised this piece, "will this do" he asked!!
