The Word became Flesh is a bold and impressive setting of the powerful words of John 1:1-14, making it suitable for all year round, yet perfect for Advent and Christmas. Written to be achievable while slightly stretching those of a community choir level, this traditional anthem is wonderful to sing, giving both the lower and upper voices chance to shine without leaving individual parts exposed. The short repeated 'In the beginning' refrain gives an excellent structure to the piece, and the wide dynamic range climaxing with 'He has made him known' make this an engaging and and impressive concert opener.
