Riffing on the prevailing chord progression from Dario Marianelli's score to the film V For Vendetta, this arrangement points out that a soldier's life is not as cheerful as, perhaps, the original hymn setting might imply. The first verse is a highly stressful march towards a powerful enemy, and the second verse is the mocking response of the enemy. Then a prayerful invocation is followed by an ultimately triumphant splice of the hymn with the climax of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, which stays true to the V motif.
