This is the eleventh piano piece (2 min. 20 sec.) in the series of impromptus inspired by sounds of childhood, namely the themes from early 90s game systems like Nintendo. Its A-section has a dark brooding character which has much to do with the highly unstable and dissonant Locrian mode in which it is written. This contrasts greatly with the triumphant and lyrical B-section which is predominantly written in the bright Lydian mode.

Some performers will be initially challenged by the key signature of 6-flats. However, the repetitive nature of the left-hand ostinato will mitigate this challenge somewhat. The middle section needs to be played at a much slower tempo with a seamless transition accomplished through the ritard two-bars before the Maestoso marking.
