Infrequently performed, this lovely and almost 'lost' anthem by the Cornish Composer Thomas Merritt is a joyful and approachable work for choirs. It was probably composed in the late 19th Century, and performed by the Church and Chapel choirs around West Cornwall. In 1968 it was performed in an arrangement which included massed brass band accompaniment, as part of a festival of Merritt's music; the arrangements and musical direction were done by Sir Malcolm Arnold, who lived in Cornwall at the time, and who was attracted by Merritt's music.
The current arrangement includes a slightly reconstructed organ part, as some of the original was missing from the arrangers very old score-copy!
