A suite of contrasting dances associated with magic, arranged in a continuous sequence. Written as a fun show-piece for Southampton Youth Orchestra, it requires a large orchestra and many percussion instruments including vibraphone, celesta, tubular bells and many smaller instruments (four percussionists required besides timpanist). The harp part may be omitted if necessary. Sub-titles: Introduction and Magic Spell, Witches’ Dance, Exotic Dance, Voodoo Dance, Courtship Dance, Fire Dance and Breaking of the Spell.
