Solo Classical Guitar - "IMPS VI" is the fourth solo classical piece in the "IMPS" series, NOT to be confused with any of my other sinister series, that pay tribute to Fiends (not friends) and other horrible beasts of the night and to the marvelous influences, much to many's dismay and chagrin, they have had on my person and my composing. We began with IMPS 3 and not IMPS 1 since, by their very nature, IMPS are rather wily and travel in packs. And IMPS is all in caps so they don't feel so small…

This floating wispy, on the northern headwinds excerpt begins at m. 28 after a slow, meandering intro that prepares the listener for an adventure in major 2nds. The piece maintains a major 2nd ostinato throughout. It migrates as it pleases from voice to voice - much as an IMP might. The excerpt begins in A Mixolydian and modulates to a more A Dorian or C Lydian feel when a C nat. is introduced in the bass ostinato at m. 42. 3/4 time is introduced at m. 54 to prepare the listener for big changes at m. 61. The IMPS are waiting….

The "IMPS" pieces share little thematic material yet make the same sinister and haunting aura about them. I sincerely hope that you enjoy this piece as well as the other "IMPS" pieces.
