Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755) was a French baroque composer. He wrote many sonatas for several instruments without basso continuo. This piece is one of six sonatas Op.40 originally written for two cellos or two bassoons or two viola da gambas. It consists of four movements as follows. 1. Andante Simple and slow but comfortable feeling of motion. 2. Presto Brisk rhythm and enjoyable interaction. 3. Adagio Slow and elegant conversation. 4. Gavotta Feeling of delightful dancing.
