" MONTUNO PEORIA "
First adjust tempo…175 minimum. This is a montuno which is often mistaken as a samba or merengue. The bass line must be as written. The harmonic structure for the solos is indicated and is limited so the soloists must think in lines, not just a lot of notes. The drum part shows a whistle on the 2nd beat, this is authentic but a scrape on a guiro would work, this would however require another player. Intonation and a relaxed feel are needed to make this swing. If there are no solos, skip letter "E/EE" and go to "F" for the 2 bar chase solos, into the cascade, rhythm section solo, quiet interlude to sign. etc.
