'Pie Jesu' from Faure's 'Requiem' arr. for String Q'tet and Flute
Faure wrote this wonderful and poignant Requiem in 1888 for the funeral of his beloved mother. The Pie Jesu is the only solo-sung part of this Mass setting and it suits the flute timbre well. This arrangement for quartet and flute forms part of my series of pieces suitable for memorial occasions. Another instrument (oboe, violin or clarinet perhaps) can substitute for the solo part of course by playing it in place of Violin 1.
