This journey is undertaken in a boat crewed by several of His relatives. When night falls he enters the underworld where he does battle with the fierce snake-like creature Apep. If he defeats the creature Ra is reborn and the following day will be bright and sunny, and everyone will be optimistic about its prospects. If Ra loses the battle then storm clouds will blight the day and the omens are dire.
’Dark Is The Night’, is the thirteenth song in the cycle and represents the passage of Ra’s boat into the Netherworld.
