Tenor Sax - Part D part from Machina Volaticus
("Flying Machine")
Modeled after the mechanical-sounding infantry march Preussiens Gloria (also included in this volume), and featuring a ‘cranking’ motif with a steadily grounded downbeat, Machina Volaticus reflects on the vital service of the ground crews, their hard work and dedication to the maintenance and study of the various machines and technologies which take us to the skies.
Suggestions for Performance
Similar to Triumphus, the piece’s strength is in the melodic “A” part, and the pounding “D” part. As much as possible, the DMus should try to unite all the lower pitched instruments under the D part, and divide A and B parts among the rest of the ensemble so that the number of musicians on part A slightly outweighs those on part B. The “C” part fills some harmony, and should be represented, but is not very necessary. Note that the Trombone “A” part has been modified to make the ‘rips’ in the opening motif more playable.

Which method of viewing music should I use?
Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:
seView
seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.
You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.
Scorch
Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.
If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
